Google CEO Sundar Pichai claimed that the company employed during “periods of considerable expansion” in the prior two years, claiming that this was due to “various economic realities than the one we face today.” According to him, the layoffs are the consequence of a “rigorous examination” of Google’s product divisions and operations.
